  • EasyJet fly from Gatwick, Manchester and Bristol.
  • BA fly from Heathrow and Gatwick.
  • From outside U.K. you may prefer to fly to Malaga in Spain which is 1 hour 30 min drive to Gibraltar.
  • We can recommend a private driver to pick you up from Malaga airport to Gibraltar or you can get a one way car hire.

There is a left luggage service at the airport 10 min walk from the yacht. If you arrive on the morning flight you have time to do a Gibraltar Rock tour or go diving.  If you want to stay the weekend in Gibraltar or Spain before or after your RYA sailing course we can send details of places to stay and what to do in the area.

You can pack light, hand luggage is fine:

  • Passport (European ID cards are not valid for Africa).
  • Restaurants and bars ashore in Spain and Gibraltar all take cards.
  • Cap, Sun Glasses, Sun Block factor 50, Swim suit. If you are travelling with hand luggage and no liquids we can provide sun protection, shampoo, shower gel onboard.
  • Towel and wash bag for visits to shower rooms. Quick dry camping type towels are best.
  • Deck shoes (white soled trainers or crocs are ok).
  • Flip flops are good for ashore but not so great while sailing.
  • Good quality waterproof jacket for night sail. Comfortable clothes, similar to what you would wear hiking or to the beach, lots of T shirts.  In the winter bring a warm hat, jacket and waterproof trousers and sailing boots or wellies.
  • For light sleepers we recommend eye mask and ear plugs. For those who have never sailed maybe travel pills to prevent sea sickness.
  • RYA logbook, you can buy online direct from the RYA or when you arrive.
  • Passport photo for Skipper courses. A pad is good for taking notes.

We provide bedding, all your safety equipment (life jacket and harness) and waterproofs if you need them.

We have on average 310 days of sunshine a year.

The sailing conditions in Gibraltar are better than the rest of the Mediterranean as there is good wind in the straits of Gibraltar. Competent crew can also enjoy sailing in Gibraltar bay which is sheltered by the Rock. www.weatheronline.co.uk/Gibraltar/Gibraltar.htm

The Bavaria 37 cruiser (new 2018) is the perfect school yacht; fast, easy to sail and comfortable accommodation with good headroom. Look at our videos.  Your yacht will be well equipped to U.K. maritime safety standards, electronic equipment and a range of sails including a spinnaker.

You sleep on the yacht, a Bavaria 37/38 and we provide freshly laundered bedding, duvets in the private cabins and sleeping bags in the saloon.  Couples have private double cabins, individuals may have a private cabin or a single berth in the saloon, if you want to be guaranteed a private double cabin for single occupancy it is £100 extra for the week. We come into marinas every night so you can enjoy the facilities ashore.

Our clients come from all over the world and are a mix of all ages and Nationalities. The RYA Instructors are all experienced sailors and expert Instructors. We choose the very best as from experience we know that this is the most important factor to your RYA course being a positive valuable experience. Read our reviews.

We provide healthy food and drinks for breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday and there is a “naughty cupboard” for energy snacks in between meals with biscuits, chocolate and nuts. On the Yachtmaster Fast track courses all the food and drinks are included, the students choose and cook their own meals together.

Yes most of the marinas have wifi or there is a cafe nearby which has wifi. Obviously while sailing we recommend you have a rest from your phones and enjoy the freedom of sailing.

Trafalgar Sailing has been running since 1995. We are the oldest RYA school in Gibraltar with the newest yacht.  We are a small family run business so can provide a more personal service that larger schools do not. On the shore based courses there is the option to have private tuition with accommodation at a Villa in Spain with a private swimming pool, gardens and light spacious classroom and separate study living room with Wifi. Our RYA Sailing Instructors are not only experts in sailing and teaching RYA courses, they are also gentlemen, have a sense of humour and are a pleasure to sail with. ‘Read more‘. If you are planning to buy a yacht we can also help you with advise, own boat tuition, yacht delivery and guardianage.
