THE RYA YACHTMASTER COASTAL SKIPPER COURSE WILL COVER:
- Passage planning and preparation for sea.
- Pilotage.
- Passage making and ability as skipper, taking care of the crew and yacht, navigation, deckwork.
- Preparation for sea.
- Preparation for heavy weather and yacht handling in strong winds.
- Navigation in restricted visibility.
- Yacht handling under power.
- Yacht handling under sail.
- Emergency situations.
For those wishing to work in the sailing industry, there is an optional exam with an RYA examiner. Successful candidates will receive an RYA / MCA Certificate of Competence which is recognised worldwide. You will also need to have completed the VHF and First Aid course, which we can organise for you and have a minimum of 800 sea mile (at least 400 tidal) and 3 x 60 mile passages. Whilst our Principal Jim Field is an examiner, it will be an independent RYA examiner that tests you.
